A wrench in my prophylactic journey

A month pre surgery. Everything is all set... right? All of my previous imaging indicated all of my "troublesome" cells were in the left breast. I was literally told my right breast was perfect. So much so that they almost didn't even bother imaging or using ultrasound on it. FAIL. I just received a call from the radiologist post MRI with contrast (planned imaging pre surgery). New fibrotic changes were noted in my right breast near my lymph nodes. They were going to recommend an axillary lymph node removal during surgery. As an Occupational therapist and Certified Lymphedema therapist, this was my worst nightmare. During an axillary lymph node removal they take anywhere from 10-40 lymph nodes in the area under the arm and check for the spread of cancer. So EVERYTHING changed. Not only was there a potential that I could indeed have active cancer but they also had to remove lymph nodes, significantly increasing my risk of lymphedema post surgery. Welcome to the journey buttercups!
